Hi
My name is Dione pronounced Deeonee although most know me as Jo. Auldjo is part of my surname.
I started fly fishing with my father when I was about 13 The first pace I fished for trout was Threipmure just outside Balerno. We used to go on holidays up north and fished the Cape Wrath lochs and the limestone ones further down.
My father then introduced me to salmon fishing we used to go up and fish the Oycle in the spring and the Shin and Connon later on. Salmon quickly took over as my passion.
I had to change my job just before I was thirty and I taught myself to be a chef. I used to cook in London in the winter and cook for salmon fishing lodges in the summer. The lodges I went to had to let me take my dog and fish. The best piece of advice my father gave me was “do not catch more fish than the guests” grin it was good advice I put many back quietly. This meant I have fished on most of the rivers in Scotland.
From 2001 I did not fish at all and it was at the 2007 Scottish game fair that I entered and won the salmon distance trout distance and trout accuracy trophy. This ignited my interest in fishing again.
Last December I caught my first rainbow as I had only fished lochs that had brownies in them before (they seem very scarce now).
I was persuaded to try for the Scottish ladies but I knew I was not good enough but I thought id suss out competition fishing this year get my casting better, learn how to catch rainbows (as I have found they act so different to brownies) and try properly next year.
My plan didn’t quite work out now I really have to learn and practice.
I tie my own fly’s I have a rule I only fish with what I have tied or fly’s I have been given as pressys.
I love this forum people are so friendly and helpful. The site days out are great and as I normally fish on my own it’s nice to fish with others.

Nice intro, it's good to learn about how others came into trouting.
