Hi, Im Paul 'Dr Kill' Moore, although I seem to get 'Doc ' a lot on here.
I was a coarse fishing addict for years untill about 2.5 years ago when i decided (along with a work friend) to get a fly starter kit.......I had finally found the path of the rightous....Ive never been coarse fishing since that day.
Im a now a fully fledged fly fishing and fly tying addict and my life revloves around it.
I started off fishing small waters such as Jubilee and sharpley ( I still fish Jubilee often) but have recently started branching out into bigger waters. Ive even started to dabble in the dark art of competition fishing.
I dont really have any claims to fame yet, although I did win my first ever troutmasters fish off at Jubilee after one year in the sport. I went on to the national final at Grafham where I spectacularly blanked.
I seem have a bit of a reputaion for being a luck git when it comes to catching (fluking?) big doubles.
Anyway, I hope I havnt bored you all........
Paul

Hey Paul,
Do you think the course fishing experience has given you any advantage for fly fishing? Funny how some of the best fly fishermen I have met have done a fair bit of course in their time.

Hi
Now there's a great subject for a debate.
I went straight into fly fishing.
I've done very little coarse fishing - I know very little about it. I do feel that I missed out.
And I know a lot of people who were coarse anglers before they becamse fly only and yes they are mostly good at the fly. I think its because there's more to suss out when coarse angling - so many different species etc.
With a fly you can fish blind and indeed many anglers do.
That's not to say that there cant be good anglers who've started off with the fly. I know people like that too. Our own site admin Julie is one such person.

Its an interesting question about my Coarse fishing background. I do feel it gave me great advantage when starting fly fishing. I allready had a good idea about watercraft and knots etc. I also feel a lot of the principles I learnt in match fishing helped me a lot also, I was a firm believer in keeping things as simple as possible and not getting carried away with 'fashion' I.E thinking the latest tackle etc would make you a better angler.
When I started fly fishing and tying, I just felt something had 'clicked' straight away if that makes sense. _________________ Some of those that where forces, are the same that burned crosses |

The only advantage is that youve done some fishing before you know some knots and you know what to expect when a fish takes, regardless of what type youve done (some might say most other fishing techniques require some flick of the wrist were as fly fishing, its best to keep it ridged), so to someone starting out, who has no bad habits, as long as they pick up the technique there is every chance they will turn out to fly better than the rest,..
